Mike Mulcey’s first studio album LOST & FOUND was recorded after returning home to the US in late 2015 after having lived 5 years abroad in Japan and South Korea. These experiences have helped color the lyrics, in which he specifically drew on the themes of travel, displacement and self-discovery as inspiration.
With an expressive style reminiscent of the singer-songwriters of the ‘90’s alt rock era, Mulcey aims to focus on delivering raw and evocative material to the listener. Being a fan himself, with a wide scope of musical influences which range from country, folk and new wave, he brings a poignant artistic perspective that embraces new genres, while still bringing forth the classic sound in which he was originally inspired.
Mulcey was born and raised in Plainville, CT, where his passion for sound started developing at a young age. With an uncle who is a professional pianist and a grandmother who was a beloved folk singer, it’s clear that music is in his blood. As a teenager, he was fascinated by the bands of the grunge era, namely Nirvana. He began playing regularly in college where he had the opportunity to hone his skills as a performer. Since then, he has devoted years writing about the events of his life which have drawn a vivid picture of these times.
Mike can be seen live, playing shows in the Austin, Texas area and beyond.
